Day-by-Day Itinerary

Your adventure begins with a scenic drive (337km, approx. 7 hours) from Addis Ababa to Dinsho, passing through rolling highlands and the Arsi-Bale massif. Stop in Bekoji, the hometown of Ethiopia’s legendary runners Tirunesh Dibaba and Kenenisa Bekele, before continuing toward Bale Mountains National Park.

Upon arrival at Dinsho Park Headquarters, embark on a leisurely trek, encountering some of Ethiopia’s rarest wildlife—including Mountain Nyala, Menelik’s Bushbuck, and Bohor Reedbuck. Bird enthusiasts will marvel at endemic species like Wattled Ibis, Abyssinian Longclaw, and Black-headed Siskin.

Rise early for a breathtaking trek through Bale’s highland wilderness, crossing lush meadows and dense forests. Stop by Finch Habera Waterfall, where the Web and Willa Rivers merge in a stunning display of nature’s raw beauty.

Along the way, keep an eye out for the elusive Ethiopian wolf, Africa’s rarest canid, often seen hunting among the heather-covered slopes. The skies are alive with Spot-breasted Lapwings, Abyssinian Longclaws, and Wattled Ibis, adding to the park’s rich biodiversity.

Arriving at Sodota Campsite (3400m), soak in the tranquil atmosphere of the high-altitude wilderness, surrounded by endless mountain views.

Prepare for an extraordinary day, venturing into Africa’s highest and most unique alpine moorlands—the Sanetti Plateau. This expansive landscape, dotted with giant lobelias and ancient rock formations, is the best place in the world to see the Ethiopian wolf in the wild.

As you trek higher, the journey leads to Tulu Dimtu (4,377m)—Ethiopia’s second-highest peak. Reaching the summit, enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the Bale Mountains, sweeping valleys, and far-reaching escarpments.

After soaking in this high-altitude marvel, descend toward the Adlye Woodland Campsite, surrounded by serene forests and quiet solitude, perfect for a peaceful night’s rest.

Your final trekking day takes you through Gaysay Valley, a wildlife hotspot where large herds of Mountain Nyala, Menelik’s Bushbuck, and Red Buck roam freely.

This is also one of the best areas to spot Serval cats stealthily moving through the grasslands, along with flocks of Abyssinian Longclaws and Warthogs grazing nearby.
