The morning trek follows the edge of the Simien escarpment, providing uninterrupted views of steep valleys and rugged cliffs stretching across the horizon. A few hours into the trek, you arrive at Jinbar Waterfall, one of the most spectacular sights in the Simien Mountains. Beyond the waterfall, the path gradually descends into a seasonal riverbed, where the vegetation thickens. Crossing the Jinbar River, the trail climbs into the village of Geech, a timeless settlement perched amidst Ethiopia’s highlands. The night is spent under the clear mountain sky, surrounded by vast fields of giant lobelias and vibrant wildflowers.

Today’s trek leads to Imet Gogo (3,926m), one of Ethiopia’s most photographed viewpoints. The hike toward the peak is invigorating, weaving through rocky plateaus and windswept ridges. Upon reaching Imet Gogo, the view is indescribable—the mountains stretch endlessly in every direction, their ridges cutting across the horizon like waves frozen in time. Standing on the edge of the cliffs, you’ll see the vast lowlands far below, with distant villages barely visible.

Continuing toward Chennek, the trail passes Korbete Metia, a sheer rock wall that opens up to another stunning valley. Here, lammergeyers glide effortlessly, their massive wings silhouetted against the blue sky, while Walia ibex maneuver the cliffs with astonishing agility. The day concludes at Chennek Campsite, where a peaceful evening in the mountains awaits.

Leaving Chennek, the landscape shifts as the trek moves eastward, beyond the boundaries of the national park. The climb toward Mount Bwahit (4,430m) begins gradually, passing fields of towering lobelias, their giant blooms swaying in the wind. As the ascent continues, the Mesheha River Valley unfolds below, revealing your first glimpse of Ras Dashen in the distance. After crossing the Bwahit Pass, the path descends into the remote village of Chiro Leba, where the mountains frame small, mud-brick homes scattered across the hills.

The final stretch leads across the Mesheha River, before ascending toward Ambikwa, where the towering peaks of Ras Dashen loom overhead, waiting for tomorrow’s climb.

The ultimate challenge of the trek begins before sunrise. The air is crisp as you depart Ambikwa, following ancient trails toward Mizma village (3,500m). Above, the summit of Ras Dashen stands in the distance, waiting to be conquered. The final climb is steep, winding through rocky terrain toward a dramatic ridge crest.

Upon reaching the summit at 4,533m, the world opens beneath your feet. Standing on Ethiopia’s highest point, the feeling is unparalleled—a moment of triumph, surrounded by one of Africa’s most extraordinary landscapes. After taking in the views, the descent leads back to Ambikwa, where a well-earned night of rest awaits.

Retracing the journey back through the Mesheha River Valley, the trek crosses the Bwahit Pass once again before returning to Chennek Campsite. Along the way, you’ll have a final chance to spot Walia ibex, often seen grazing along the rocky cliffs. The evening is spent in the heart of the Simien wilderness, reflecting on the achievement of climbing Ethiopia’s tallest mountain.

Leaving Chennek, the final drive winds along the scenic Limalimo Road, descending into Gondar. Here, step back in time as you explore Ethiopia’s imperial past, walking through the Royal Enclosure’s towering castles, the Timket festival site at Fasilidas’s Bath, and the beautifully painted ceiling of Debre Birhan Selassie Church. After lunch, the flight to Addis Ababa concludes the adventure with a farewell dinner, featuring traditional Ethiopian food, music, and dance.
